Calendar Puzzle ("we," "our," or "us") is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it.

Information stored locally

• Gameplay progress, puzzle state, preferences, and limited statistics are stored locally in the browser or on your device so you can resume playing.
• The web version uses browser local storage and session storage. The iOS version uses on-device storage such as UserDefaults. These are not used by us for advertising or cross-site tracking, and may be cleared through your browser or device settings.

Information sent to our servers

Submitting a leaderboard score is optional. A leaderboard entry may include:

• The display name or initials you enter.
• The puzzle mode and puzzle date.
• Your completion time and the number of hints used.
• The final solution layout, meaning the identity and board position of each piece when the puzzle was completed.
• A pseudonymous user identifier assigned through Firebase Authentication and timestamps associated with creation, submission, and completion. The identifier does not require an email address or named account.
• Where applicable, challenge results such as the number of solutions found.
• When you submit a score on the web version, the app may also synchronize previously stored local completion history, including puzzle dates, completion times, hints used, and completion timestamps.

Information we do not request

Through the app, we do not directly request your email address, phone number, contacts, precise location, advertising identifier, or other account credentials. However, our service providers may automatically process technical information such as IP address, application identifiers, device or browser information, and request logs as described below. If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and message as described in the Email section.

Service providers and technical information

We use Google Firebase as a cloud service provider to host leaderboard and gameplay-history data, assign pseudonymous identifiers to web users, and support the operation and security of the service. Google processes this information on our behalf and may also process technical information such as IP addresses, application identifiers, browser or device information, and request logs.

We also use hosting and other infrastructure providers required to operate the website. These providers may process standard technical request information, including IP address, user agent, referrer, and requested URLs.

International data transfers

Our service providers may process information in countries outside the country where you live. Where UK or EEA data-protection law applies, transfers are made using an applicable adequacy arrangement or contractual safeguards. Google describes its transfer safeguards in the Firebase Data Processing and Security Terms. You may contact us for more information about safeguards relevant to your information.

How we use information

• We use submitted information to operate leaderboards, display scores, calculate leaderboard statistics such as recent puzzle counts, synchronize gameplay history where applicable, prevent abuse, maintain security, and respond to support requests.
• We use final solution layouts to identify, count, compare, and replay the different valid ways a puzzle has been completed, and to produce statistics about solution patterns. The format-version marker is used only to decode the layout correctly.
• We do not use this information for targeted advertising or sell it to third parties.

Public display

Leaderboard records are publicly readable. They may include submitted initials or display names, puzzle results, completion times, hints used, puzzle dates, final solution layouts, and submission timestamps. A solution layout may be displayed or replayed individually, grouped with matching layouts, or included in aggregate solution statistics, even if the standard leaderboard page does not currently display every stored field.

Data retention

Leaderboard submissions, including any final solution layout and layout format version, and associated completion-history records remain while the relevant leaderboard is active, unless they are deleted earlier in response to a valid request or because they are no longer needed. Support correspondence is retained only while reasonably needed to handle the request, maintain necessary support records, resolve disputes, or meet legal obligations. We may retain limited records in backups or security logs for the period reasonably needed for backup rotation, security, dispute resolution, or legal obligations. Where reasonably identifiable, deletion will also include the associated pseudonymous web-user record.

Your choices

Submission to the leaderboard is entirely optional. You can choose not to submit a score. Gameplay progress normally remains local unless you use a feature that sends it to our servers, such as submitting a score.

Your data-protection rights

Depending on the law that applies and the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or receive a copy of your information, and to object to certain processing. To exercise a right, contact us using the details below. We will respond to verified requests as required by applicable law, subject to any permitted legal, security, and backup-retention exceptions.

Your right to object: Where we process your information on the basis of legitimate interests, you may object to that processing. We will stop unless we have a compelling lawful reason to continue or the processing is needed for legal claims.

Because we do not require a named account, we may need the display name used, approximate submission dates, puzzle modes, and other details to identify the relevant records. We may be unable to fulfill a request if we cannot reasonably identify the information concerned.

Email

If you contact us by email, we collect your email address and the information contained in your message, including attachments, solely to respond to your request and maintain support records.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the service or our data practices change. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the date shown above.
